What’s Your Expectation?

Hebrews 11:1: “What is faith? It is the confident assurance that something we want is going to happen…” (The Living Bible)

One of the most powerful principals in the entire universe is that of faith. If you surveyed a group of people on this subject, the majority would probably view the word “faith” from a positive perspective. However, faith is really a two-edged sword—even in the lives of Christians. While the goal of the believer’s faith is to be rooted and grounded in God and godly things, there are times when we expect a negative outcome. How can you tell? Because our expectations manifest in our behavior—more especially our words.

Jesus declared, “…out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” (Matthew 12:34) This means that our mouths are simply the reservoirs to that which is in our hearts. I’ve met more than a few individuals who have been hurt and have allowed their hurt in an area to be their expectation. And their expectation comes out when they open their mouths: “Things are going good, but just wait…” “Nobody can be trusted…” “You think you know them, but keep watching, they’ll change…” Unfortunately, these individuals don’t realize that their adverse outcomes were simply a manifestation of their faith.

The Living Bible’s definition of faith is, “…the confident assurance that something we want is going to happen…” (Hebrews 11:1, TLB) From a psychological perspective, the opposite end of the spectrum of faith is called a self-fulfilling prophesy which is simply, “a prediction that directly or indirectly causes itself to become true.”

As we come to the end of another workweek, let’s evaluate our expectations of life, circumstances, people, but more especially—of our God.

Let’s Pray:

Father, deliver us from past hurts, disappointments, and negative expectations. Help us to expect Your Word to manifest in our lives, in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

Daily Prayer:
“Oh, that You would bless me indeed,
and enlarge my territory,
that Your hand would be with me,
and that You would keep me from evil,
that I may not cause pain!”
The Prayer of Jabez, I Chronicles 4:10

Daily Confession
:
Father,

I thank You for making me the head and not the tail

Above only and not beneath

The lender and not the borrower

The conqueror and not the conquered

I thank You for giving me all things that pertain unto life and godliness

And for delivering my life from death and destruction

So that I shall live and not die to declare your works

I thank You that no sickness shall live in my body today

For by Your Stripes I’m healed

I confess that I will not be stressed, oppressed, or depressed

Because You’re keeping me in perfect peace as my mind is stayed on Thee

I confess that there shall be no lack in my life today

For my God shall supply all my needs according to His Riches in Glory by Christ Jesus

Thank You that all things are working together for my good

And that You always cause me to triumph

This is the day that you have made

I will rejoice and be glad in it

In Jesus, Name, amen.
