The story is told of a young boy that aspired to be the greatest hitter in all of baseball. One day while playing in the backyard, he threw a baseball into the air, swung and missed, “Strike one.” Confident in his abilities, he tossed the ball up again, but swung and missed, “Strike two.” Un-phased by what had transpired, he tossed the ball into the air a final time but missed, “Strike three.” To this the boy replied, “Strike three. I’m the greatest pitcher in the world!”



Like the boy in the story, the attitude of the believer should produce a Kingdom Language that expresses the fact that we always win. Here’s the language of Kingdom citizens:

-“ Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” (Romans 8:37)

-“ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)

-“ Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ…” (II Corinthians 2:14)

Even at death, the believer is victorious because “…to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” (Philippians 1:21) On our worst days, we’re never defeated because “we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

The exhortation today is to be encouraged in the fact that believers are victorious in every situation.

“Father, thank You for the victory in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in His Name we pray, amen.”

Daily Prayer:
“Oh, that You would bless me indeed,
and enlarge my territory,
that Your hand would be with me,
and that You would keep me from evil,

A Bold Approach

Hebrews 4:16: Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

An interaction between a 4-year old boy and his pastor reminds me of the way we are to approach The Lord. Yesterday morning, a group of us were fellowshipping in the Pastor’s study in Indianapolis prior to the 8 a.m. worship service. Suddenly, an unusually loud knock interrupted the gathering and caught everyone’s attention. When one of the servant leaders opened the door, a young boy walked in, bypassed the rest of us in the room, and took a gift directly to his spiritual father, Bishop Larry D. Grinstead. His gesture caused all of us in the room to erupt in laughter.


While it’s Scriptural to reverence and honor the Glory and Majesty of our God, we must also know His Desire to be in an intimate relationship with us. And if we’re going to be in covenant with God, there must be a level of confidence that we have in communicating with Him or accessing His Presence. The Bible exhorts us to, “…come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:16 (KJV)


If you are a Christian, always remember that you have a right to commune with your Heavenly Father—regardless to what season of life you may be in.

Sunshine After The Rain

Psalms 30:5 “…Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning” (ESV)

The weather forecast for this past weekend called for thunderstorms beginning on Friday around mid-day and continuing all-day Saturday and Sunday. Nothing extraordinary about the weekend predictions; rainy weekends have been forecasted many times before. Very few people (if any) anticipated the record-breaking downpour we experienced. A state of emergency was declared in many areas of our state as many homes and businesses were flooded. The devastation caused by the forty-eight hour downpour catapulted Nashville and the surrounding middle Tennessee area into the local, regional, and national news headlines. But the workweek began on Monday morning in a very optimistic way—the sun was bright and shining! The beautiful sunlight and eighty degree weather we’ve experienced the past two days have been welcomed here in Middle-Tennessee—more especially after such unseasonal rain.

There are times when we’re faced with adverse situations that are totally unexpected. There have been seasons when the troubles of life caught me totally by surprise. But the good news is that trials, tribulations, and traumas are not terminal—they’re temporary. Thank God that the storms of life eventually “pass over.” And after every storm, there’s a bright cloud somewhere. The Bible says that “weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” (Psalm 30:5)
Regardless of who you are and what you’re going through, I believe by faith that God is turning things around in your favor.

“Father, I pray that You’re turning things around in the life of the person reading this devotional. I pray that You’ll help them to ‘hold on til their change comes,’ in Jesus’ Name, amen.”
